Anne Aaron

Enjoyed Stranger Things and Narcos in Netflix? Then give thanks to Anne Aaron who was listed in the 43 Most Powerful Engineers in the US during National Engineering Week (Feb. 19 – 25, 2017).

Anne Aaron happens to be the director of Video Algorithms at Netflix. Business Insider listed her at No. 32 in the list of most powerful female engineers.

“She leads a team of software engineers and research scientists. They make the software that enables more than 86 million Netflix members worldwide to watch streaming with the best possible quality.” according to Business Insider.

Anne Aaron started in Netflix in 2011 as a senior engineer and proceeded from there to her current position. Prior to that, she was Senior Software Engineer for Video Codecs at Cisco Systems, the world renowned technology titan.

A product of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) batch 1994, she has displayed both propensity and proficiency in technology and science.

Anne Aaron had her undergraduate degrees on Bachelor of Science in Physics and Bacheklor of Science in Computer Engineering graduating as Valedictorian and Magna Cum Laude respectively from the Ateneo de Manila University.

Her Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering was acquired from Stanford University.

Proving that women can excel in male-dominated professions and industry, Anne Aaron is included in that group of women who are at the cutting edge of technology and even include tech oriented startups.

It is common knowledge that women are the minority in the engineering and technology industries and that it is harder for them to get ahead in such.

But Anne Aaron and her team gets the nod in the list by providing 86 million subscribers of Netflix with video streaming of the best quality.

Truly, Anne Aaron is proof that women and Filipinas can be world class engineers and scientists.
