Science Festival at the Philippine Science High School

The Youth Math, Science and Technology Week (YMSAT) 2017 at the Philippine Science High School (YMSAT) kicked off last March 13, 2017 at the Philippine Science High School Main Campus (PSHS–MC) in Diliman, Quezon City.

The theme for this year is “Juan Science, One Nation”. The objectives of YMSAT 2017 are two-fold:

1. To expose the PSHS students to different ways that Science and Technology can be used in pursuit of nation-building.

2. To allow PSHS students and faculty to share their knowledge, skills, and talents with the community at large.

The first 2 days of the Science Festival had activities that included the PSHS Gym having a paper planes-crafting and flying competition to an Ikebana creation talk and activity, perfume-making, a Microbiology talk, a chemistry career talk, a Philippine National Police Crime Scene Investigation  Talk and Math Intersection lectures.

The Tuesday activities had a Math Treasure Hunt, Chemistry Intersection, a Physics Boat Race, Preparation for a Physics Musical Concert, Physics Water Rocket Activity, and even a Beauty, Fitness and Science Activity.

Commencing on March 15 will be the YMSAT Open 2017 that will include participants from secondary schools for both students and educators. The Interscholastic Science Congress (ISC), the Interschool Integrated Science Olympiad (IISO), the Computron Interschool IT Challenge, Catalyst 2017 and the Tagisan Mathinik will be held at the PSHS Main Campus.

Sessions of parallel workshops for all participating students and educators will also be conducted.

PSHS is the prime Science High School in the Asia-Pacific and is administered by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Each year level of PSHS-MC has 240 scholars for each Grade Level. PSHS offers education from Grade 7 to 12.

PSHS–MC has an Advanced Science and Technology Building where the Samsung Smart Classroom is located together with the FabLab (Infinity Room) where the results of experiments and theories not only of students but also those who are into applied science and technology can fabricate and/or manufacture their prototypes of products and processes.
